Mavaney's 8th Birthday - Pre-Celebration

Mavaney is a busy gal at the young age of 7 & her birthday falls on a Friday this year. That would have been ideal for a party, but she has a Girl Scout meeting Friday night & then on Saturday morning she heads for Camp Carlson Lodge where they will be having their Cookie Kick Off (Anyone want to place a pre-order for Girl Scout Cookies??? hahahaha). So, we had to come up with a different option & in a jiffie because Mom (me - the one that just gave away more brain cells to more children) totally spaced that all this Girl Scout stuff was happening. So, Mavaney decided to have a sleepover with just one friend, Sydney, & the only day we could make it work was New Year's Day. Thank goodness for Wal-Mart (a corporation I have scorned & scolded for many years, but always keep running back to) because they were actually open on the holiday & we were able to get some party supplies.

THE PLAN:
Make a list
Get party supplies
Get lunch (KFC - Mav's favorite)
Pick up Sydney

THE MENU:
Bagel Bites (Salisbury Steak was the first choice, but she changed her mind when she eyed the Bagel Bites)
Mac & Cheese
Hot Dogs

THE CAKE:
Store-bought (HEAVEN FORBID)
Yellow cake with white buttercream frosting

The pictures tell the rest.

The girls wanted to decorate everything themselves. I think they did a great job.

I hated buying a cake, but it was just what the occasion demanded. And Mavaney was actually quite excited about getting to pick her very own cake from the store.

Mavaney was quite happy about the extremely girly soccer ball, but nothing could match the happiness she felt when she saw her collection of stones that Daddy picked out for her. Mavaney LOVES rocks, she carries them EVERYWHERE, just one or two & she has a whole collection of all different kinds in her room. So, I would have to say this was definitely her favorite birthday present.

Mavaney & her friend, Sydney. They are in the same class at school & even ride the bus together in the afternoons for a few minutes because Sydney lives very close to the school.
